Game Stories Reading Week 10

Image
Game Stories Game story is very important and it is necessary for most of the games.Today I read two assays about game stories and what is important for game developers to know about game stories.First assay is "What Every Game Developer Needs to know about Story so this one I think is very interesting and explains a lot about game stories and things that you should know and consider when you are making a game.So this is the most interesting things that I have found for myself in the assay: A Starting Place "Okay, to really get this right, we have to talk about story in general. What has always worked, and what will work in  every  form of story, including games?  We could go back to Aristotle's "Poetics," but a more useful reference is from that curmudgeonly guru of Hollywood screenwriters, Robert McKee, author of the book,  Story , which is based on his many three-day intensive story structure lectures.  Some people have their doubts about McKee, based on his

Hi Everyone ! So this week I have continued working on my own game last week I added assets created a background and done a lot of work on the code. This week I changed the speed of my background because I din't like the way it looked when I was playing a game so I decided to make it work a little smother.I also added little objects that my player would be collecting throughout the game and a bomb which explodes when player flies on it which I think looks very cool.At this moment I feel that my game is playable and has some challenge for the player but I think there is still something missing which I'm going to try fixing next week. But overall I am really happy with the way everything is going and how the game looks now.Actually in terms of difficulties that I have faced this week was that I didn't save my game last week and I've lost few things that I worked on last week so I had to start everything all over again but it was a good lesson for me now when I add somethin

Unity Tutorial 9

Today I have completed another tutorial lesson which was the last part of the game that Ive been working on last week tutorial. In this lesson I learned have to add more enemies and how to make them spawn in waves so for example one obstacles spawns and when you defeat it two spawns and so on.I general this weeks work was very interesting in the way that it teaches us new things that we as a beginners can implement into are own game and also develops our coding skills.During this lesson I faced a problem in my code and I was kinda struggling with it until I found the problem and it was only one letter missing from the code which was a great lesson to me that I need to pay more attention to what I am writing and putting into my code.Overall everything was working great and I got my game working and now I am looking forward to maybe try some of the things that I have learned in this tutorial in my own game in order to make it as good as possible for the player. "Review Week Comments and Feedback"

Image
Comments that we have been writing for each other on the project and our game design and ideas in my opinion were really helpful. They help us to understand what other people think about the game we are creating and our blog in general. From reading comments I personally took a lot of advise from people that were commenting on my blog and my game idea which was really helpful. From the comments I was observing what people think about my game and a blog and those little things really helped me to improve my game and a blog as I was going along working on my blog. When I was writing comments for other people I was trying to be as constructive as possible in order to provide really helping advise for the persons blog that I've been doing.Somethimes my comment were similar to what I was writing before and were not always helpful but even when they weren't really helpful I was still trying to say what I like and what is good or bad about their blog. And also when I was analysing other

Week 9 Reading and Writing

Image
Hi Everyone! This is week 9 of me doing reading tasks there has been a lot of work done and a lot of articles read during those 8 weeks of work on my blog.In the reading tasks we were looking at things like Game Design,Game Elements,Games GDD and also Game Fun and a lot more I personally found really interesting writing and working on the reading tasks I learned a lot of information from them which helped me with my knowledge about games and little things that are involved into creating games. One of my favourite readings are Game Fun and Game Elements I like this the most because I learned a lot about game elements that should be included In the game and also what needs to be used in the game to make it as interesting as possible.Alos Game Fun because it gave me a better understanding of what a game fun is and how I can make my game interesting and enjoyable for the player. This little things I think were really helpful in terms of giving us better understanding of what we are doing an

Today I did a lot of work in my game mostly with the code.Last week I downloaded all the assets that I needed for my game and I have also created a background for my game. This week I started working with the code in order to get my player moving in my case up and down and forward in order to avoid obstacles. So far I have background ready and now my player is moving I also have obstacles added to my game. The things that I have found difficult today was to get my player moving and not be flying away from my game.In order to avoid my player flying away from the map I added some box colliders which stoped my player from going away I also added Rigedbody to my player in order to add gravity and physics in to my game.Next week I am planning to work on the obstacles and the keys that my player would be collecting along the game.Overall I'm really happy with what I've made so far and I'm looking forward to continue working on my game until my game is going to be fun and enjoyable

Unity Tutorial 7

Image
Today I have completed another Unity game and 3 Unity tutorials for this week. The game we were making this week was a bit more different than the previous tutorials we did.It was different in the way that we had to create objects and apply textures to them we also learn have to apply physics and we added enemy that was trying to push the main player of the map and we had to make the enemy to spawn at random places in the game to make it more playable and enjoyable for the player.Overall this weeks tutorial was very interesting and definitely helpful to us especially when we are working on our own project. From this tutorial I learned a lot of new things that I'm sure will help me in creation of my own game and definitely made me a lot more comfortable with Unity and the code.I am looking forward to implement some of the things I have learned during all the tutorials I have made in my own game that I am working on now I hope ill be able to do a good job on that! Game Fun

Reading Week 8 “Game Fun" Games can be described by the 3 components Mechanics, Dynamics, and Aesthetics (MDA) or otherwise stated as rules – system – “fun” . The three reading selections this week and the synopsis below all address the term “fun” in relation to game design. There are eight types of Fun outlined by the MDA. These eight are both a source of reference and player experience that blend together in many ways, and essentially what makes a game engaging and enjoyable. Figure 1: Eight kinds of Fun Both Oxford and Merrian dictionaries define Fun as an enjoyment, delight but within the context of a game it refers to a form of pleasurable entertainment. MDA papers define the '8 kinds of fun' sensation, fantasy, narrative, challenge, fellowship, discovery, expression, and submission, remain a source of reference and possibly the most popular list of player interactions combining in various forms to attract each player to a particular game.  Screenshot from my game! Hi Everyone! So today I have started working on my game before I have started creating  my game I did hours of research on how to implement everything and start my game from the scratch. The first thing I have done I found my character and obstacles than I put them in the game but before i added my player and obstacles I did a lot of experimenting with other game assets that I was trying to use in my game. But eventually I found a ghost and an obstacle that I am happy with after that I decided to find a background that will fit the theme  of my game and something that would look good in. my game.I also watched a lot of videos on how to start making a game in Unity 3D which I have found very helpful. Also I looked at some tutorials that I have completed which were really helpful  in terms of making a background  and setting up everything properly I the game.Overall today I have started on my game I did research which helped me to understand Unity even more and be

Unity Tutorial 6

Hi Everyone! Today I completed Unity tutorial task for week 7.For this week we had to complete the game we started last week and also challenge 3 in which we had to practice and use all the knoladge that we have learned during the process of creating a game. This weeks Unity was very interesting because I learned a lot of new things.I learned how to add effects like explosion and dirt to the character and also how to add music to the game which I found very helpful and I'm sure those little things will help me to create my own game and make it enjoyable for the player. In the challenge we had to make the balloon fly and collect money along the way there was a lot of work with code but some how I got it working. When it comes to fixing a code in the game it is very challenging but at the same time you learn a lot from it which In future will help with the game creation and gaming skills in general.Overall this weeks tutorial went great I didn't have any problems with the code and

Game Decisions

Video “In order for the player to be optimally engaged, challenges should be presented at a level equivalent or slightly higher than their current skill. Not too easy, not too hard”( Gigity McD ) The word 'flow state' was coined by Csikszentmihalyi (1975) also known as being “in the zone” This is when the player is fully engaged in the game experience. Csikszentmihalyi put a lot of work into observing and analyzing various groups of people. This theory is focused on the idea of how people should balance their skills and the demands of particular tasks. An example of Flow would be a challenge in a game that interests the player such as a puzzle or a boss battle meant to keep the player interested and not get bored. Csikszentmihalyi also states that flow is related to an ideal psychological condition when a person engages in a challenge-skill activity, often resulting in concentration and a focused emphasis on a task. A practical technique for improving Flow is to look at what

Game Design Document

Image
In my Game Design Document I mention and clearly explained what I will exactly do in my game and what is going to be involved in it and also all the process that I will implement in the game.So to start with  I decided to create a power point presentation in which I have broken all the process into stages that the game will be created and how the game should look like. I started with a the name of my game which I have finally created the name of my game would be " Ghost Runner" Then I made a summary section were I briefly explained what the game is going to be about. Than I went on to the next section which is Gameplay and in this section I wrote about the features of the game and what would be involved in the gameplay in general. In the next section I spoked about Game Style were I have explained the game style of my game and also to what my game is similar to and all other aspects such as the game would be in cartoonish  ghost style to describe the mood of the game as good

Unity Tutorial 5

Image
Hi Everyone! Today I've completed Unity Tutorial were we had to make a little endless running game with a character that jumps over the obstacles and a background that we had to pick the process of creating this game was very interesting and very informative because this is kinda similar to the game I will be making so I found it very helpful and also learned new things that I will be able to implement in to my own game.I did three lessons in the first lesson I got stuck because my obstacles wouldn't appear and I had to go over the code again to find were I made an mistake and when I found it I was surprised how easy crash you game by putting code into a wrong section of the code.Second and Third lessons went pretty good as I concentrated and didn't make any more of mistakes. After finishing the lesson I started to understand and be even more confident with the code and Unity in general.Im looking forward to finish the game fully and learn more and more things that will hel

Game GDD

Image
What is the GDD for? A Game Design Document (GDD) is a blueprint for the design and development of a game. The GDD is a way of being creative and documenting the approach to the development of the game. Gonzale (1999) states that “ the important thing is to have something that describes your game project (or any other project for that matter) before jumping into production .( Gamasutra ) It should help to plan out your game. Though it is recommended that the GDD should be short it needs to be detailed enough so as game developers and artists can coordinate the development of the game independently whilst still keeping to the design.  The GDD is a blueprint for how the game is going to be designed and built, similar to a mind map. In conclusion, the game design document is vital to making a game and it is important to have in order to describe your game project. How do we make one? There are a variety of tools that could be used to create a GDD. These include word processing tools,
